Sustainability

Statement

Global Warming is a real threat to our Planet and there is no Planet ‘B’. Although we cannot completely eliminate our carbon footprints, we can all definitely make attempts to reduce them. At ‘Nandini’, substantial investment has been made towards making the Cottage as sustainable as possible.

Solar Power

The Cottage has 3.3 KW of solar panels installed at the roof top to harness sunlight and it is intended to connect it to the state power grid. As of now the solar panels are charging the inverters of the cottage and after they are connected with the grid, surplus power would be fed to the grid that would substantiate the renewable share of the grid.

Rain water harvesting

There are two water storage tanks of about 50k litre to harvest rain water. The part water requirement of the Cottage is met through this storage. The water is properly filtered though 2 stage filtration process even for use of bathrooms. Water for drinking and cooking is again filtered through RO water prrifier to ensure that our guests get safe water.

Minimise water wastage

The RO water purifier is based on ‘Zero Water Wastage Technology’ ensuring no water is wasted during purification process. The Cottage also has water efficient toilets.

Maximise day light use

The Cottage is blessed with sunshine throughout the day and is designed with glass windows to optimise the use of ambient light. Each room of the cottage has large glass windows which obviate the use of bulbs during day time even for reading.

Energy efficient Lighting

Energy efficient LED lights and other energy efficient electrical gadgets have been used in the Cottage.

Waste disposal

Care is taken to recycle or dispose off the plastic and other waste in a responsible way. The organic waste is taken by the cottage's Maid to feed her livestock in her village thus ensuring that the organic waste is utilized properly. We urge guests to avoid bringing plastic and to leave no plastic behind.

Minimise use of single use plastic

We do not use single-use plastic cups or plates and restrict single use plastic to the minimum.

Assisting the local economy

  • The Cottage staff belong to the nearby villages, which reduces their inclination to migrate out.
  • Most of the groceries are sourced locally.
  • We promote tours, treks and activities organised by local guides and businesses.
  • Local artists are offered a platform to display their talents, handicrafts, and other products upon request from our guests.
  • We encourage our guests to converse with our staff regarding local ecosystems, heritage and culture, as well as visitor etiquette.
  • Guests are encouraged to taste the local cuisine which is unique tasty and nutritious.

We request our esteemed guests to support us in saving our Planet by saving on water usage without compromising on their comfort :

  • Exclusive mug for shaving: Shaving with a running tap leads to water wastage. In our bid to reduce this water wastage, elegant ‘Shaving Mugs’ are kept in the Washrooms exclusively for use during shaving. We thank you in advance for using them while you shave.
  • Buckets for bathing: Use of buckets saves water and we encourage our guests to make use of buckets for bathing.
  • Linen change: We change bed linens once in 3 days. Guests can contribute in minimising water wastage by prolonging the use of bed linens and also with option to reuse towels. Linens and towels are, however, changed after check out of every guest, irrespective of days of usage. Guests can also request to change linen in between as per their need.
